MADDIE + DREW // WASHINGTON DC ENGAGEMENT

I met up with Maddie + Drew in DC, after they did a cake tasting for their wedding coming up this Summer!

I recommend all couples eat cake before an engagement session.

We walked around the Georgetown Waterfront in DC, exploring! The Swedish Embassy has a lot of fun spots to find, even if you have to dodge a few tourists and the occasional skateboarder to make it work. We discovered a boathouse that Maddie used to row from! Small world: It turns out that Maddie + I actually went to the same high school a few years apart!! Her and Drew now live out in Seattle and I was so excited to be able to meet them in person and make some art with these two amazing people!!!

Even though they’ve been together for more than 8 years now, and have two cats (the ideal number), I can sense that they have a very rich relationship. They share the same easygoing mentality that comes—i’m suspecting—from both a deep true love, and from moving out of the DC area. :)

But they also seem to be deeply happy in the life that they’ve built together. In walking and talking with them as we went along, I realized that their upcoming wedding is really less about entering into that perfect life, and more about throwing an awesome party in celebration of what they already have, and looking forward to what comes next. I expect great things from these two!

crazy // strange // great // 2018

Well, that was a year alright.

A crazy, strange, great 2018. Let’s break that down:

Crazy: what even happened this year?! Abbi + I traveled all over the country with family, and went back to Italy for a third time! I flew to California for a few weddings, and moved to Baltimore Maryland! A LOT of traveling. We’re both really loving Baltimore so you should come visit!! It is actually an awesome town. Just gotta dodge the horrible drivers.

Strange: this year saw less overall bookings than previous years, so I used it as a time to do some thinking about what’s been successful and unsuccessful and what I need to work on personally + professionally in the coming months and years. A new website is in the works and I’m…pretty dang excited about it! I’ve also tried some cool new stuff this year…more on that below.

Great: The weddings I was privileged to be a part of this year and the people that I’ve met along the way have made this an incredible year. I love photography, because when done well, it has the power to paint an emotional canvas of a whole life in each image. Looking back on all of the moments in these amazing people’s lives, I feel honored to be doing what I’m doing; to have a perspective on those moments. The trust you put into a photographer is In the images below you’ll see a whole lot of things in addition to my weddings and engagements. It’s been interesting to try to stretch myself a little this year. Political stuff, editorial events, travel photos; I’ve even done some newborn, baby, and family sessions this year, one of which was for a couple whose wedding I photographed three years ago! It’s so exciting to see these people going through another amazing stage of life and to reconnect after so long.

Danielle + Tom // Alexandria Virginia Wedding

Oh, just an absolutely perfect wedding for your perusal today!
//
It’s so exciting to see two people with real passion for each other! Danielle and Tom are MFEO (made for each other—Sleepless in Seattle, anyone? No? Just me? …moving on…)

Let’s start with Tome. Tom is a total sweetheart. Since the minute the three of us met, every time he looked at Danielle he was absolutely beaming with joy! Their engagement session went so awesomely well that the long 6-month wait til their wedding nearly killed me.

On to the wedding!

The ceremony took place at Blessed Sacrament Church, which is a gorgeous Catholic church in Northern Virginia. Afterwards the bridal party and I endured sub-freezing temperatures for epic portraits in Old Town Alexandria!

I love it when a couple incorporates their gifts into their wedding day. One of Danielle’s gifts is that she is an amazing vocalist, so she sang to Tom at the reception! I was totally blown away by how beautiful her voice is. They also had a curated karaoke party section during their reception (AWESOME). Since Danielle is one of The Alexandria Singers, naturally a bunch of the guests were incredibly talented singers as well, and a few of them sang songs for the couple and the rest of the wedding guests to get down to! Before the party was over, we ventured out into the freeze again for some incredible night portraits. Thank you, D + T, for the opportunity to be there with you!

It’s easy to see why these two are a perfect match. See for yourself below!
